Ideal Day Visualization
This is often where we begin together at ThriveWise Coaching.
Developed by Dr. Martha Beck, the Ideal Day Visualization is a simple yet powerful technique designed to help you feel better immediately, and begin imagining a life that feels completely aligned with you.
A ThriveWise Guided Exercise
Ideal Day Visualization
A guided exercise to help you picture your ideal day in vivid detail. This becomes a starting point for a bigger vision of your life.
Find a quiet space where you won't be interrupted. Silence your phone. Take a moment to settle in and let your mind slow down.
Ground Yourself
Close your eyes if that feels comfortable. Take a few slow, deep breaths, in through your nose, out through your mouth. Let each breath clear a little more space in your mind.
Step Into Your Ideal Morning
Imagine waking up in your ideal space. A cozy home, a beachfront villa, a mountaintop retreat, wherever feels right to you. Notice the comfort of this place.
As you rise, check in with your body. Are you rested? Energized? What does that feeling of ease feel like?
Walk through your morning. What do you do first? What do you eat? Who, if anyone, is with you?
Journal
- Where am I, and what makes this place feel like mine?
- What does my body feel like when I wake up on this day?
- What is the very first thing I do?
- What does my morning routine include, and what does it leave out?
Move Into Your Day
Picture your day unfolding. What are you doing? Who are you with? What's bringing you joy and a sense of purpose?
Journal
- What kind of work or activity fills the middle of my day?
- Who is with me, and how do they make me feel?
- What moment today am I most looking forward to?
- What does purpose feel like on this day?
- What am I not spending my time on?
Wind Down Into Evening
Imagine your evening. How do you unwind? How does this ideal day come to a close?
Journal
- What does rest look like for me at the end of this day?
- Who, if anyone, do I share my evening with?
- What is the last thought I have before I fall asleep?
Engage Every Sense
As you move through the visualization, notice the details, what you see, hear, smell, taste, and touch. The more vivid, the more useful this vision becomes.
Journal
- What sounds fill this day?
- What do I taste or smell that stands out?
- What does the air, light, or temperature feel like?
Reflect
Open your eyes when you're ready.
Journal
- What stood out most about this day?
- What surprised me?
- What parts of this vision felt most aligned with what matters to me?
Capture It
Write your ideal day out in as much detail as you can. Let it become something real, a tangible picture you can return to.
Connect It to Your Life
Look at what you've captured.
Journal
- How does this ideal day connect to my broader goals and values?
- What pieces of this day already exist in my life right now?
- What pieces feel farthest away, and why?
- What would need to change for one part of this vision to become true this month?
